You'll recognize stuff lifted from Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, and more of that ilk running madcap through the film. What's more, it's deliciously politically INcorrect using stereotypes of Chinese bad guys.

The cast of this flick is a Who's Who of greats: Put this in your playback, pop open a two liter bottle of pop, pour out a large bowl of your favorite nosh, get comfy in your Lazy-boy or on your sofa, and enjoy, enjoy! Beatrice Lillie in her final performance and add in a quiet retiring woefully shy actress you may remember called Carol Channing who turns 94 this year I do believe.

Mix them all up in the Twenties with flappers and pearls and flattened bosoms and all that Jazz in a story about young girls making it on their own in the big city and being preyed upon by white slavers while looking for true love and you have one of those humongous overblown musicals that darned near killed the genre at the time. Fortunately there's enough pizzazz on display in this one to make it hugely entertaining along the way and really really fun too.

Julie lets her hair down and her visual asides to the audience with sly comments and glances into the camera shows her true comedic genius to it's best advantage. Mary-Tyler Moore does demure and dimpled innocence so well you may need some nausea medication in your pocket and that's a compliment. The male leads are perfectly cast with James Fox, an Englishman dancing and singing up a storm while John Gavin does his 'Arrow Shirt Man' imitation that he was born to do and wisely refrains from the refrains While Beatrice Lillie lords it over all as the ladies' hotel owner who trades in female slavery on the side with the help of her inscrutable henchmen.

Meanwhile Carol Channing plays a doting mother who also happens to be filthy rich and as morally free as that money will allow her to be This movie is a wonderful send up of the twenties with everything skewered from Harold Lloyd to speakeasies!! So there you have it Well I've gotten about as high as I can with this review I can't dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a entertaining film that is sadly flawed but still delivers. Julie Andrews is wonderful to watch with her super animated facial expressions. My main complaint is there is not enough songs. I have to say i think Carol Channing actually steals the show musically-with Jazz Baby--That number is what entertainment is about. The scene in the elevator with Mary Tyler Moore and Andrews is classic.

  1. escapada fin de semana europa!
  2. mujer independiente y soltera.
  3. Thoroughly Modern Millie!
  4. conocer personas on line gratis!
  5. It makes me smile every time i see it. This was directed i believe by the same guy that made Butch Cassidy-Sundance Kid--so you know there is a serious filmmaker behind the camera. The coming together of this cast was always a surprise to me, but of course, they pulled off this story with magnificent comedy and I should not have been surprised.

I love myself a quirky comedy and this is one of the best ever. It's the kind of comedy that starts with an impossible premise and is way too fun and stupid to miss. And yet it is about a serious subject, human trafficking. A bright shining musical that is as alive in as it was the sixties.
